Clúid Housing announces record social housing delivery

Clúid Housing has launched its Annual Report 2019. Ireland’s largest approved housing body (AHB), delivered 721 new homes to 2,100 residents over a 12 month period.

In line with its corporate strategy, these homes are part of Clúid’s commitment to delivering 3,000 new homes by the end of 2022. This is a significant contribution to the national housing stock in response to the ongoing housing shortage. 82% of the new Clúid homes brought into management in 2019 were newly constructed properties.

CEO of Clúid, Brian O’Gorman, welcomed today’s announcement: “2019 was a record year for Clúid. We’ve seen the number of people living in Clúid homes grow to almost 20,000, welcomed an additional 2,100 new residents, added 721 new homes to our portfolio and increased the value of our tangible fixed assets to €1,032m.”

On continuing to deliver homes during the recent COVID-19 restrictions, O’Gorman added: “Clúid is a resilient and innovative organisation that has resolved many challenges in its 25-year history. We have a robust financial model in place to weather the looming economic uncertainty following the COVID-19 emergency and our teams continue to prioritise the health and safety of all our stakeholders. We are back on building sites across the country and moving forward with our delivery schedule for 2020.”

Programme for Government

Clúid delivers housing in partnership with a number of stakeholders including: Local Authorities; the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage; the Housing Finance Agency (HFA); the Housing Agency; local communities; other Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs); and developers.

New Business Director with Clúid, Fiona Cormican commented: “AHBs supplied over 40% of all new social housing in 2019, that’s over 4,000 homes across the country. The new Government’s commitments on affordable rental housing, a national differential rents scheme, the provision of age-friendly housing, the reclassification of AHBs and building defects are all very welcome developments for the sector. We are ready and willing to work with the Government and the various Local Authorities to deliver on the housing objectives outlined in the Programme for Government.”

25 Years

Clúid’s 2019 annual report celebrates the organisation’s achievements over the past 25 years too. This milestone was acknowledged with a reception hosted by President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin in recognition of Clúid’s contribution to Irish society.

The organisation now owns and manages 7,583 homes, providing secure, high-quality, affordable housing and support services to some 20,000 people. Clúid residents live in diverse communities across 26 counties.

Thriving Communities

On Clúid’s vision for the future, O’Gorman says: “Clúid’s vision is a society where everyone has a great place to live. That’s the driving force behind our mission to deliver quality housing and services that enable people to create homes and thriving communities.”

Clúid’s Head of Delivery, Eibhlin O’Connor is featured in the latest edition of Irish building magazine and discusses delivering homes to high standards, the use of Modern Methods of Construction and what is expected from the companies supporting Clúid to deliver more than 60 construction projects over the next three years.
