Townmore delivering social housing for Kildare

Delivered under the Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness, Kildare County Council has welcomed the handover of 18 new houses in Rathangan from Townmore.

The housing scheme comprises a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroomed A-Rated properties, that have been allocated to families and individuals on the Council’s social housing list, with one unit allocated using the Choice Based Letting Scheme.

Mr. Peter Carey, Kildare County Council, Chief Executive, acknowledged the delivery of the houses by Townmore and the extended team working under very challenging circumstances presented by the COVID-19 crisis.

“The provision of homes for individuals and families continues to be a high priority and would remain at the forefront of the anticipated recovery phase,” said Carey.

Councillor Suzanne Doyle, Cathaoirleach of Kildare County Council, welcomed the delivery of the much needed houses which would assist in meeting demand in the area, and wished the new residents good health and happiness in their new homes. She also congratulated and thanked the existing residents for their forbearance and co-operation in delivery of this project.

While challenged by the constraints and restrictions presented by the COVID-19 crisis, the Council’s Housing Department continues to work on the planning and delivery of housing throughout the county and is positioned to meet the 2020 targets for the provision of social and affordable housing as set out by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.

Speaking about the project, James Godley, Managing Director of Townmore, said that: “The ongoing delivery of housing, particularly social housing, is critical at this time. The unfolding COVID-19 situation does not diminish the well-established need for housing across Ireland and Townmore has adopted new working methods designed to comply with COVID-19 public health restrictions.

“We will continue to meet client requirements to the highest standards, while honouring programme dates. We are grateful to the experienced project team within Kildare County Council and the design team for enabling the successful delivery of this quality housing development under exceptional and challenging circumstances.”
