ICSH to Highlight Challenges Threatening Implementation of Social Housing Strategy

The AGM of the Irish Council for Social Housing will take place today, Monday, 30th November, at the Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin 8 at 11am.

At the meeting, the ICSH will highlight serious challenges that are threatening the implementation of the Government’s Social Housing Strategy.

Dr. Donal McManus, CEO of the ICSH, will describe a number of infrastructural obstacles and delays, which the ICSH believes are hampering the Social Housing Strategy’s progress.  Speaking in advance, he said: “The Social Housing Strategy underpins the work of the 270 voluntary housing associations that are members of the ICSH.

“However, at present, their work is being seriously hampered because of infrastructural obstacles and unnecessary delays.  If this situation continues, we believe implementation of the Social House Strategy will become impossible.”

In addition to looking at the challenges impacting on the implementation of the Social Housing Strategy, tomorrow’s ICSH meeting will focus on opportunities for voluntary housing associations to work in partnership with local authorities.  Eugene Cummins, Chair of the Housing Committee of the County and City Managers Association, will deliver a guest address.
