McLaughlin & Harvey and GeoSea sign MOU on cooperation for the offshore installation and deployment of wave and tidal current power plants

DEME’s marine engineering specialist GeoSea and McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a period of 2 years to collaborate in the offshore installation works of wave and tidal turbines.

The wave and tidal industry is facing major challenges in evolving from a testing and demonstration phase to a commercially viable industry.

McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd and GeoSea share the ambition to push forward the industry by de-risking the installation processes and making projects bankable.

Both parties will explore joint installation opportunities by collaboratively uniting their respective experience and know-how. The companies will combine their cost-saving techniques, innovative equipment and high-tech vessels to develop optimised installation methods.

McLaughlin and Harvey are one of Northern Ireland’s largest Civil Engineering Contractors and operate throughout Great Britain and Ireland. The company has expert in house disciplines including Civil & Marine Engineering and Building Construction.

McLaughlin and Harvey have been actively involved in the Marine Renewable Energy Sector for the last 8 years and are market leaders in the deployment of wave and tidal energy devices, including foundation installation, cabling and operation and maintenance. McLaughlin and Harvey Offshore is a specialist division set up in 2013 to grow the companies’ presence in the industry. McLaughlin & Harvey Offshore continue to work with various developers and are also developing a unique installation technique for wave and tidal energy device foundations to suit a range of ground conditions and a variety of turbine solutions. This is the focus of an ongoing Research and Development campaign.
