Realex have supported the awards for the past five years and to coincide with the recent launch of their personal payment account, Realex Fire will sponsor this year’s awards.

The free to enter awards have 29 categories recognising websites in News and Media, Entertainment and Arts, Technology and Social, Government, Education and Community, Commerce and Mobile sectors as well as Technical Awards.

The Realex Fire Web Awards stand out from other awards as anyone can nominate a site, and the long list of nominees is drawn solely from public nominations by a judging panel. All nominations are listed on the awards website. There were in excess of 600 nominations last year.

Over the years many well-known sites have scooped a Realex Web Award including; Irishtimes.com, Luas.ie, DoneDeal.ie, Siliconrepublic.com, and Thejournal.ie. Last year Entertainment.ie claimed the title of the Best Website in Ireland alongside a Best Entertainment category award.

This year’s awards include Best Online Publication, Best Student Web Project, Best Financial Services Website, Most Useful Website in Ireland, Best Sports Site, Web Agency of the Year and Most Beautiful Website in Ireland, amongst others. New categories on this year’s list are Best Website of a Start-up and Best Daily Web Publication. Additional new category Ugliest Website in Ireland can only be nominated by yourself and not others; the prize is E4,500 of web design from V7.

Speaking at the launch, founder and organiser of the Realex Fire Web Awards, Damien Mulley said; “The unique aspect of these awards is that they are open to anyone to enter and whether you are a multinational or a one-person business your website has an equal chance of winning. Simply securing a nomination can be a great boost to your business.” Source: Business & Leadership.
