An Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade, Eamon Gilmore T.D., today officially opened a new swimming pool and leisure centre in Loughlinstown.
The facility, which has been completely modernised, includes; 3 new artificial pitches with pitch changing facilities, reception area, changing village, coffee shop, beauty salon, children’s play area and improved parking facilities. The entire centre has been repainted and revamped and brought very much into the 21st Century.
Opening the new facility, the Tánaiste said “I am delighted to officially open dlr Leisure Services Loughlinstown. This state of the art community facility will benefit people of all ages and sporting ability for years to come. I want to pay tribute to all those who championed the construction of this swimming pool over many, many years and I welcome the additional employment that this project has generated both during the construction phase and since the new facilities have been up and running.”
Also speaking on the day, An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Tom Joyce said; “The Centre has been redesigned to meet the particular needs of the physically and visually impaired including large changing cubicles, disabled toilets, wheelchair shower and easy accessible steps for pool entry. The changing area has a state of the art mobile hoist which will assist in bringing customers from the changing area directly into the swimming pool.”
The swimming pool, which was delivered on time and within budget, boasts a state of the art filtration system which will reduce maintenance costs. The heating system is powered by a Combined Heat and Power unit (CHP) which meets and exceeds the huge energy requirements of a modern day swimming pool. The Air Handling Units (AHUs) keep the oxygen, humidity and temperature within the Centre to strict limits.
The Tánaiste thanked all the staff of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and Tom Mowlds, CEO dlr Leisure Services and his staff. In particular he thanked the loyal users of the facility who maintained their support during the construction.
