Irish company Cylon – an international leader in the development of energy management systems and services – has been awarded a 2012 Award for “Lighting/Energy Efficiency” by the Global Cleantech Cluster Association (GCCA) and is now part of the prestigious “Global Top 10”.  10 Global Category Winners were announced in the United States last night at the Savannah International Clean Energy Conference and GCCA Awards Celebration and Dinner.

From an original pool of over 4000 global entrants, Cylon beat off stiff competition to reach the final stages and was the only Irish company selected in the Top 30.  Judged by 28 cleantech venture capitalists, investors and serial entrepreneurs, who have collectively invested over $3.5 billion in clean technology globe, the adjudication process was conducted over a three month period.

Commenting on the accolade, Sean Giblin, Managing Director Cylon said: “We are thrilled to receive such a prestigious award from a global network of industry leading cleantech clusters.  We were delighted to receive the nomination for the GCCA award from The Green Way and Cylon continues to work closely with a number of The Green Way partners, including DAA and DCU, to reduce their energy.  This award win reinforces the fact that energy management is a rapidly growing sector and businesses are now prioritising energy efficiency due to growing regulatory requirements and increasing energy costs.

Cylon’s robust building management solution and unique cloud based real-time energy management technology allows us to centrally monitor and analyse our clients’ energy consumption from our Dublin based Energy Bureau in Clonshaugh.  Our engineers determine the efficiency of the building, identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to clients in order to maximise efficiency, reduce overall energy consumption, carbon footprint and drive energy savings.”

He added, “Cylon has continued to grow and thrive in both existing and new markets and now provides comprehensive energy management solutions to large corporations and SMEs in the UK and Ireland, across Europe and the US. Clients include: University College Dublin, Dublin City Council, Enterprise Ireland, Manchester Metropolitan, Canary Wharf, Google, Raleigh Convention Centre North Carolina and Microsoft.”

Nominated by The Green Way for the GCCA Awards, Ronan King, Chairman said, “The Green Way is delighted to see one of Ireland’s cleantech cluster companies gain such significant international recognition, in the ultra competitive Energy Efficiency category. This achievement by Cylon, in a greatly expanded field of participating companies, is testament to the world leading innovation capabilities of the Irish cleantech sector.”

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Ben Taube, Chairman of the GCCA said, “Cleantech and sustainability are no longer a niche. They are out performing most market sectors in growth even during the recession.  These 2012 Top 10 winners are indicative of the growing strength of their sectors; they truly are the world’s top-tier cleantech companies and should be recognised on the global stage.”
